為了強化部隊運輸能力，美國海軍陸戰隊在日本沖繩追加部署12架MV-22魚鷹 (Osprey)傾斜旋翼機，預料再度引發當地居民反彈。
根據日本共同社報導，12架MV-22在30日上午由民間船運抵山口縣岩國市，之後運到美軍岩國基地。這12架魚鷹機最快將於8月上旬由美軍岩國基地移至沖繩美軍普天間基地，將用來淘汰老舊的CH-46中型運輸直升機。
2012年7月首批批12架魚鷹機運抵日本時，曾引發沖繩當地居民強烈反彈，沖繩縣知事仲井真弘多更多次要求日本政府重新檢討計畫，隨著第二批魚鷹機運抵，並將部署在沖繩，恐引起當地居民強烈反彈。
V-22傾斜旋翼機由美國航太廠波音與貝爾公司共同研製，魚鷹運輸機最大特徵是機翼兩端各有一組可變向的螺旋槳發動機，當螺旋槳發動機朝上時，能夠產生如直升機般垂直起飛的升力，以及起降、滯空等能力；待起飛後，發動機隨即轉到約10度角的接近水平位置，產生足夠的前進推力，達到可與定翼飛機比擬的高速飛行速度。
V-22無空中加油時，作戰半徑約690公里，從美國西岸飛到太平洋中部島嶼僅需一天多，若採用傳統直升機則至少需要一週時間；魚鷹運輸機不僅能夠滿足美軍任務的需求，更賦予戰場指揮官更多的選擇及靈活性，是美軍全球戰略部署的重要載具，也是美軍提昇西太平洋軍力機動性能的最佳選擇。 (接下一頁)
