以色列與巴基斯坦預定美國時間29與30日舉行和談。專家認為，以巴復談要成功，美國總統歐巴馬必須介入。
以色列和巴勒斯坦談判，2010年9月延宕至今，為了讓以巴雙方重上談判桌，美國花了許多功夫，包括美國國務卿凱瑞（John Kerry）過去4個月內6度訪問中東，並任命前美國駐以色列大使、資深中東問題專家英迪克（Martin Indyk）擔任會談特別代表。
以色列司法部長李夫尼（Tzipi Livni）和巴勒斯坦代表艾瑞卡（Saeb Erekat）將代表雙方重回談判桌。
歐巴馬在會談前發表聲明指出，對於以色列總理尼坦雅胡（Benjamin Netanyahu）和巴勒斯坦自治政府主席阿巴斯（Mahmoud Abbas）同意恢復談判感到欣慰。
在敘利亞問題難解、埃及陷入動亂之際，以巴復談恐怕是歐巴馬政府近期中東政策的唯一收穫。不過，馬里蘭大學的中東問題專家泰爾哈米（Shibley Telhami）教授指出，「如果和談最終希望成功，歐巴馬總統將必須介入，美國也將必須提供一個解決辦法。」
他強調：「某些方面看來，和談的主要玩家不會是納坦雅胡、阿巴斯或是柯瑞，而會是歐巴馬。」
